Assessing my role and Leadership

1.  Assess your role within the cohort?  Did you choose this role or was this role ascribed to you?
I believe that my role in this cohort consists of me being the observer and at times in small groups a leader. I consider myself the observer because I am still young, learning, and trying to understand what’s going on. Therefore I rather listen, watch, and take notes now so that I may later be able to apply what I have learned. As far as the role of being a leader, I have been placed in that position a couple of times throughout this cohort.  I took the initiative once before and in my opinion it’s not a responsibility that I desire to take on, however; it forces me to get things done.

2.  Describe your leadership qualities.

My leadership qualities consist of me being supportive and open minded.  To be a leader one has to be open to all different types of ideas and I am the type of person that wants to hear every side of a story. Being supportive of a group is the biggest quality of all.  I know that in order for everyone to succeed we as a whole have to support each other 100% and keep striving toward the goal.

3.  Assess what leadership roles you have and haven't taken within the cohort.  Why did you make the choices you did to lead or not lead?

I have taken on the observing yet motivating role. If someone is willing to step up and take on the leadership role then that’s fine and if no one steps up then I will consider if I fully understand what’s to be expected.

4.  Assess the possibilities for leadership in the cohort environment; how will you choose to respond to these possibilities?  What risks are there?

The possibilities in this cohort are to engage in staying on track and being organized. I will respond to these possibilities by making sure that I am doing my part and encouraging others to do the same. The risks could include some people trying to work their hardest but not seeing the positive results of their efforts and the possibility of them veering off track. The purpose in this cohort is for everyone to stick together so that a risk like this will not happen.
