OBJECTIVES
1. Program Objective #1 Spotlight: Apply culturally
competent evidence-based practice skills adaptable to
meet the needs of individuals and groups with diverse
backgrounds by utilizing understandable language and
multi-culturally sensitive communication skills.
(Program Goal #2)
I choose to include my electronic poster on Reminiscent Therapy in a Geriatric Long Term Care Facility.
This poster includes everything from learning the needs of different individuals to working with a diverse
group with different backgrounds. Most people who are elderly have sensitive communication skills or
barriers within communication. To have experience with these groups I have to understand that some
clients might be deaf and some have poor vision now and that I would have to take a different approach
with these residents than I would have with younger individuals. These are the skills that I needed to be
aware of and that will help me conduct and carry out a reminiscent therapy group.
2. Program Objective #2: Synthesize and integrate varied sources to inform
decisions and create solutions and appropriate problem-
solving strategies congruent with the social work knowledge
base. (Program Goals #3, #4)
I choose the research outline because it is the beginning of trying to get information and solutions and
using the skills that I have learned in previous classes such as quantitative and qualitative methods as
well as SPSS to help incorporate the appropriate problem solving strategies. The problem at hand in
this research dealt with the stress levels of little girls and I was able to use these sources to interview
and come up with a rationale that would help in creating a solution.
3. Program objective #3: Demonstrate professional behavior
congruent with the social work Code of Ethics and apply strategies
to effectively identify, address, and resolve ethical conflicts in
professional practice. (Program Goals #2,#3, #4, #5)
I choose the professional development paper to be apart of this E-poster because it demonstrates
to me how I have grown professionally. It incorporates the old and explains how I plan on using what
I have learned to help make better outcomes for now. It also includes my first field agency Girls Inc. but
I have transffered to St. Barnabas which is a completely different field however it was a decision that had
to be made for the betterment of my professional learning process.
4. Program Objective #4: Apply strategies for continuous
self-evaluation including supervision and consultation, and
feedback from peers and other sources for self development.
(Program Goals #1, #4, #5)
Norfleet, Essay on Tolerance.pdf
I choose this essay on tolerance to upload to this E-poster because it establishes how I was tested and
evaluated. It was an assignment for Policy I class. I think that it was very inspiring because it included
a number of tests that we had to complete and in the end a score of how you really feel about a particular
subject matter came up. We were able to get feedback from our peers as well as our teachers and the
internet source. It was an eye opener and in my opinion it can help open our eyes in our field practice by
being aware of our own biases.
5. Program Objective #5 Practice with an understanding
of human rights and social justice by engaging in systematic
social change to alleviate economic deprivation and oppression
by applying change strategies to begin the process of achieving
a just society in a global community. (Program Goals #2, #3)
SOCW Living with Bariatric Surgery.pdf
I choose this essay because it identifies an oppression or discrimination that can occur. People who
are heavy set are more likely to be ridiculed and their rights and social justice can be taken away from
them based off of how they look. It is not right for them to be treated this way. It leads to some people
ending up being depressed or some people do not care about how what others say but health issues
tend to become a problem therefore in this case my interviewee decided that bariatric surgery was the
best for her.
6. Program Objective #6 Spotlight:
Integrate an appreciation for the history of the social
work profession and the relationship between social
welfare policies and the social work profession to
inform the context of current generalist practice.
(Program Goals #1, #3)
truth commision info.pdf
I choose to use the truth commission information because it is where I feel we have learned a lot
about the history of social work as well as being connected with our social work professionalism.
We, as a class, had to come up with a whole truth commission in a short period of time basically
on our own without mush help from out instructor. This was a process but we pulled it off and I
think that we also included welfare policies, practices, and other polices into our commission.
7. Program Objective #7 :Evaluate the effectiveness
of evidence-based interventions and other generalist
practice activities and client situations in the context of
political and social policy by applying both quantitative
and qualitative evaluation, research, and effective
writing skills to a variety of practice settings. (Program
Goals #2, #3, #4)
Research article critique.pdf
This was a research article that I did based off of an article. This critique of the article mostly describes
qualitative data. Throughout the article it will show evidence-based and other practice activities. This is
just a critique of the article, therefore not all of the information dealing with the article is given but one can
still understand what it is stating based off of my critique.
8. Program Objective #8 Spotlight: Function as a
professional, collaborative, and supportive team
member in implementing agency mission and functions.
Program Goals #1, #2, #3, #4, #5)
Adapting to older Age SOCW.pdf
I choose this article because in my field at St.Barnabas I am working with older individuals and in order
to show how I can function as a professional, collaborate, and implement functions in my agency. I had
to relate the topic of my agency and this is the main thing about elderly that I had to do when transffering
from Girls, Inc. to St.Barnabas.
9. Program Objective #9 Apply an understanding
of the effects of interpersonal, social, and institutional
oppression and discrimination in assessing
and planning change in service delivery
systems and organizations. (Program Goals
#1, #2, #3, #5)
Norfleet, SOCW..TAG, 2-13-07.pdf
I choose this paper because it is something that I did in a group and I believe it shows our abilities in
understanding and planning to make change. It really goes in deep with the social aspects. It also
shows my growth in working in a group as well.
10. Program Objective #10 Contribute to the
service-centered focus of the university in promoting
intellectual, ethical, social, and cultural professional
growth to enrich one’s own life and the lives
of others and in preparation for functioning
professionally in a variety of entry-level
practice settings. (Program Goals #2, #3, #4,
#5)
Norfleet, Field Learning Agreement II, 2-14-08.pdf
I choose to include this agreement because it is what the university department of social work
really worked towards. It shows what I plan on doing in field and how I plan on carring it out.
It shows professional growth in that this is my second agreement and compared to the first one,
I filled the most of it out on my own and it seems more professionally done. I am interning at St.
Barnabas and it helps me reflect and enrich growth in not only the resident/clients lives but mine
as well.
